Adult/Teen CERT (Community Emergency Response Training) Programs
A Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
In addition, The Hero Project structures the standard FEMA- CERT training to include aspects of psychological resiliency development, as well as, cultural reclamation and restoration. It is impossible to predict a natural disaster or how any one person or community will respond. Just as the CERT program trains the body to acquire muscle memory for specific physical skills, mental and emotional competencies must also be ingrained in order for them to be readily available during times of shock and trauma. The Hero Project has helped youth and adults learn evidence-based practices that CERT members can use to manage large groups in crisis and help communities put the pieces back together after the disaster has passed.
The Hero Project offers CERT training for both teens and adults. Trainings are formatted differently according to the group, community and time available. Minimally CERT trainings require 30 hours or both classroom and hands on instruction. Our staff will work with your organization, department, school or group to customize a CERT training that is right for you.
